Trying to get an entry-level insurance claims adjuster job. HELP?
I’m trying to get into insurance, I’ve got a few friends of friends across the country who work in Insurance and like it. It’s stable office job without many prerequisites, and I actually like working in an office setting.
I’ve got a B.S. in Criminal Justice. I floundered around in Community College not knowing what I wanted to do, then got a scholarship for Criminal Justice so I went to a State College to get a B.S. In Criminal Justice. I left with no debt, but also a degree that’s as useless as an English or Art degree. I regret going for a Criminal Justice degree because I have no intention of becoming a police officer or corrections officer, as I would rather kill myself. I’ve looked into probation officer positions as well, but haven’t heard anything back.
While at college, I was a member of the Criminal Justice Honor Society, as well as on the Dean’s List. I got really good grades while at college, but that doesn’t seem to matter, because I’ve applied to countless Insurance type jobs (entry level, claims, adjuster, etc), and have had 2 phone interviews and thought they went well, but never received a call back. The only thing I don’t want to do is a sales position, since I’m not a fan of that whole area. I’ve applied to Erie, Geico, Statefarm, and quite a few local insurance companies.
My previous job experience was a sales associate at Target, then as a Data Entry intern at a Fortune 100 company. However when I went to 4year college after community college, I didn’t have a job since I focused on school. I was doing 3 years of work in 2 years so I didn’t have time for a job.
I currently live in VA, but have no problem moving to almost anywhere else in the US for a job, assuming I can make enough to live by myself.
What am I doing wrong? Any tips to get a career in insurance?
Thanks –
