SHANGHAI — A company that made shoes for Ivanka Trump and is accused of serious labour abuses in China is being celebrated in a blockbuster propaganda movie. “Amazing China” praises the Huajian Group for spreading Chinese influence and sharing China’s prosperity with Africa.<\/p>\n
But workers from Huajian’s factories in Ethiopia tell The Associated Press their wages are so low they struggle to pay their bills. They say have to work without safety gear, can’t form a union, get yelled at by Chinese managers and are run through military-style physical drills.<\/p>\n
The movie has smashed box office records in China, helped by censorship of online commentary and free movie tickets handed out as part of “party building work.”<\/p>\n
