{"id":8120,"date":"2018-05-01T12:09:10","date_gmt":"2018-05-01T16:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/Life-Insurance-Blog\/?guid=80c790f34fee8731f27a1eaf97d4e887"},"modified":"2018-05-01T12:09:10","modified_gmt":"2018-05-01T16:09:10","slug":"514-billets-dinged-for-unsolicited-texts-to-pay-10-coupons-to-clients-crtc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2018\/05\/01\/514-billets-dinged-for-unsolicited-texts-to-pay-10-coupons-to-clients-crtc\/","title":{"rendered":"514-BILLETS dinged for unsolicited texts, to pay $10 coupons to clients: CRTC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GATINEAU, Que. &#8212; Owners of Quebec-based ticket reseller 514-BILLETS have agreed to offer $10 rebate coupons to 7,500 clients in the first application of Canada&#8217;s anti-spam law has been applied to unsolicited messages sent to mobile phones.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission alleged that 514-BILLETS violated the law by sending text messages without the consent of recipients.<\/p>\n<p>It also alleged the ticket reseller didn&#8217;t identify the person who sent the messages or provide information so that recipients could contact the sender.<\/p>\n<p>The 514-BILLETS service primarily resells tickets for sporting and cultural events.<\/p>\n<p>It is owned by two numbered companies &#8212; 9118-9076 QUEBEC INC. and 9310-6359 QUEBEC INC. &#8212; which have agreed to pay $75,000 in rebates and $25,000 to the federal government to settle the case.<\/p>\n<p>The CRTC says the companies will also appoint an officer responsible for making sure the organization complies with Canada&#8217;s anti-spam law, which lays out the conditions for sending electronic communications.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today&#8217;s announcement demonstrates our comprehensive approach to reduce unsolicited communications sent to Canadians, whether via email or text message,&#8221; said Steven Harroun, CRTC chief compliance and enforcement officer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GATINEAU, Que. &mdash; Owners of Quebec-based ticket reseller 514-BILLETS have agreed to offer $10 rebate coupons to 7,500 clients in the first application of Canada&rsquo;s anti-spam law has been applied to unsolicited messages sent to mobile phones.
