{"id":4076,"date":"2018-04-06T11:15:19","date_gmt":"2018-04-06T15:15:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/Life-Insurance-Blog\/?guid=61c55d002d0ad17706e9b08671554ff0"},"modified":"2018-04-06T11:15:19","modified_gmt":"2018-04-06T15:15:19","slug":"trump-warns-markets-will-feel-a-little-pain-before-trade-standoff-is-over","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2018\/04\/06\/trump-warns-markets-will-feel-a-little-pain-before-trade-standoff-is-over\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump warns markets will feel \u2018a little pain\u2019 before trade standoff is over"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Donald Trump said Friday the U.S. markets could face some &#8220;pain&#8221; from the trade standoff with China and other countries but claimed that Americans would be better off in the long-run due to his protectionist actions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m not saying there won&#8217;t be a little pain,&#8221; Trump said Friday during an interview on WABC Radio&#8217;s &#8220;Bernie &amp; Sid in the Morning&#8221; program. &#8221; So we might lose a little of it but we&#8217;re going to have a much stronger country when we&#8217;re finished, and that&#8217;s what I&#8217;m all about.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trump ordered his administration Thursday evening <a href=\"http:\/\/business.financialpost.com\/news\/economy\/trump-urges-100-billion-in-new-china-tariffs\"  rel=\"noopener\">to consider tariffs<\/a> on an additional US$100 billion in Chinese imports, sending U.S. stock futures tumbling. In a statement Thursday, Trump cited &#8220;China&#8217;s unfair retaliation&#8221; in response to his list of proposed tariffs earlier this week covering US$50 billion in Chinese products.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">China, which is a great economic power, is considered a Developing Nation within the World Trade Organization. They therefore get tremendous perks and advantages, especially over the U.S. Does anybody think this is fair. We were badly represented. The WTO is unfair to U.S.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Donald J. Trump, who in the past has hailed the rising stock prices during his tenure, has spoken less about the markets as they have retreated from record highs this year.<\/p>\n<p>Trump claimed in the interview Friday that &#8220;the market&#8217;s gone up 40 per cent or 42 per cent.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Since Trump was inaugurated, the S&amp;P 500 is up 17 per cent, the Dow up 24 per cent and the Nasdaq up 27 per cent. Since his election, the S&amp;P 500 is up 33 per cent, the Dow up 44 per cent and the Nasdaq up 44 per cent, even with recent losses.<\/p>\n<div class=\"pmYTPlayerContainer video-container\">\n<div id=\"pn_video_42194\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\">( function() { pnLoadVideo( \"videos\", \"0Fwy-F2Mw-0\", \"pn_video_42194\", \"\", \"\", [] ); } )();<\/script><br \/>\n&#8220;We have to do things that other people wouldn&#8217;t do.
