{"id":3773,"date":"2018-04-04T23:20:28","date_gmt":"2018-04-05T03:20:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/Life-Insurance-Blog\/?guid=f1e652d5081756edf2444a9fdc53ce69"},"modified":"2018-04-04T23:20:28","modified_gmt":"2018-04-05T03:20:28","slug":"judge-energy-firms-can-ignore-obama-era-methane-waste-rule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2018\/04\/04\/judge-energy-firms-can-ignore-obama-era-methane-waste-rule\/","title":{"rendered":"Judge: Energy firms can ignore Obama-era methane waste rule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CASPER, Wyo. &#8212; A federal judge in Wyoming has ruled that energy companies don&#8217;t have to comply with a signature environmental rule from the Obama era involving methane waste.<\/p>\n<p>The Casper Star-Tribune reports Judge Scott Skavdahl ruled Wednesday that Bureau of Land Management regulations curbing the burning of excess gas from wells, as well as more labour-intensive checks for accidental leaks, make &#8220;little sense&#8221; because those requirements will soon disappear.<\/p>\n<p>He didn&#8217;t weigh in on the rule&#8217;s merits, so addressing methane leaks and flares will still be decided in court. But Skavdahl said that until then, the rules should be on hold.<\/p>\n<p>He says his decision &#8220;will provide certainty and stability&#8221; while BLM completes its rulemaking process.<\/p>\n<p>The Environmental Defence Fund, which favours methane rules, vowed to appeal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Information from: Casper (Wyo.)
