{"id":3476,"date":"2018-04-03T17:58:45","date_gmt":"2018-04-03T21:58:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/Life-Insurance-Blog\/?guid=7a0f73cd85ffac3ddcd2626f14a9b8a8"},"modified":"2018-04-03T17:58:45","modified_gmt":"2018-04-03T21:58:45","slug":"blackberry-adds-snap-to-companies-its-suing-for-patent-infringement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2018\/04\/03\/blackberry-adds-snap-to-companies-its-suing-for-patent-infringement\/","title":{"rendered":"Blackberry adds Snap to companies it\u2019s suing for patent infringement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TORONTO &#8212; Blackberry Ltd. has added Snap Inc. to the list of companies it&#8217;s taking to court in California for alleged patent infringement.<\/p>\n<p>The Waterloo, Ont.-based company says in a lawsuit that Snap has infringed on intellectual property, including innovations on real-time activity location for maps, message notification techniques and methods for integrating advertising on mobile devices.<\/p>\n<p>The claims, which have not been proven in court, did not specify what financial compensation the company is seeking.<\/p>\n<p>Blackberry says it has been working to establish a dialogue on potential partnerships with Snap for more than a year, and is still open to one, but says it has an obligation to pursue appropriate legal remedies.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit against Snap follows ones filed against Facebook Inc. and its WhatsApp and Instagram subsidiaries in early March alleging infringement on several patents related to messaging applications.<\/p>\n<p>Snap did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Companies in this story: (TSX:BB)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TORONTO &mdash; Blackberry Ltd. has added Snap Inc. to the list of companies it&rsquo;s taking to court in California for alleged patent infringement.
