{"id":2600,"date":"2018-03-28T12:51:16","date_gmt":"2018-03-28T16:51:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/Life-Insurance-Blog\/?guid=827620a004ad0d75d40841c9970f305b"},"modified":"2018-03-28T12:51:16","modified_gmt":"2018-03-28T16:51:16","slug":"broken-rail-led-to-saskatchewan-potash-train-derailment-tsb-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2018\/03\/28\/broken-rail-led-to-saskatchewan-potash-train-derailment-tsb-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Broken rail led to Saskatchewan potash train derailment: TSB report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. &#8212; An investigation has concluded that a split rail ultimately led to the derailment of a freight train carrying potash in southwestern Saskatchewan last fall.<\/p>\n<p>A Transportation Safety Board report says the crack had been there for some time and the rail broke when the Canadian Pacific train passed over it on Oct. 3.<\/p>\n<p>The train was heading west from Swift Current when 37 cars derailed near the Maple Creek subdivision.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the derailed cars released potash, but no dangerous goods were involved and no one was hurt.<\/p>\n<p>The safety board says the tracks in the area had been tested 11 times in the two years before the derailment &#8212; most recently last August &#8212; and no defects were reported.<\/p>\n<p>It says the crew did not observe any track or operating irregularities.<\/p>\n<p>Potash consists of minerals containing potassium and is used as an agricultural fertilizer.<\/p>\n<p>(Companies in this story: TSX:CP)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. &mdash; An investigation has concluded that a split rail ultimately led to the derailment of a freight train carrying potash in southwestern Saskatchewan last fall.
