In Ohio, prices stood at $4.34 a gallon, up from $4.05 a gallon on Wednesday. GasBuddy\u2019s prices differ slightly from those released by AAA, which issues nightly updates on prices.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"79\" data-revive-topics=\"pricing-trends\" data-revive-companies data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>A shut-down of a key unit at ExxonMobil Holdings Corp.\u2019s Joliet, Illinois, refinery had already pushed prices significantly higher on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-10-21\/us-midwest-pump-prices-poised-for-surge-after-refinery-upset\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wednesday<\/a> in both states.<\/p>\n<p>Polls show tight Senate races in both states, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-10-21\/us-midwest-pump-prices-poised-for-surge-after-refinery-upset\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cost of living<\/a> and pump prices top voter issues in the midterm elections 12 days from now. Democrats must hold on to their seat in Michigan, a state won by President Donald Trump in 2024, if they hope to flip control of the US Senate.
