BlackRock funds will hold an 80% interest in the joint venture, while Meta will retain the remaining 20%.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"79\" data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>The $14 billion development costs don\u2019t include the cutting-edge chips required to power AI models. A 1GW data center typically costs $35 billion to $50 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Tech firms including Alphabet Inc., Amazon.com Inc., Meta and Microsoft Corp., have been aggressively building out data centers in pursuit of dominance in the still-nascent market for AI tools. The unprecedented scale of development is being financed through a mix of capital expenditure, private infrastructure funds, debt and sovereign wealth.<\/p>\n<p>Read More: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-07-25\/big-tech-debt-flood-is-taking-over-risk-in-market-credit-weekly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Big Tech Debt Flood Is Taking Over Risk In Market: Credit Weekly<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Meta will initially contribute land and other assets valued at about $2.3 billion and receive a one-time payment of $1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>BlackRock will contribute about $4.9 billion in cash, with some of its portion funded by about $12.5 billion of bonds <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-07-27\/blackrock-raises-12-5-billion-of-debt-for-meta-data-center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">that were sold Monday<\/a> after a nearly weeklong process and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-07-24\/blackrock-kicks-off-12-3-billion-bond-sale-for-meta-data-center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">weaker-than-expected investor demand<\/a>. The investment-grade debt offered yields that were more in line with riskier junk-rated bonds, which rose in early trading in part because of the hefty concessions it priced at.<\/p>\n<p>The El Paso project is part of Meta Compute, the social media company\u2019s initiative to build out AI infrastructure and sell access to excess computing power. Meta will enter lease agreements for the facility with a four-year initial term, with options to extend.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext-2\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"162\" data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>The joint venture with BlackRock \u201callows us to move faster and at greater scale,\u201d Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Meta <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-04-29\/meta-raises-outlook-for-capital-spending-in-2026-shares-slide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">raised its spending outlook for the year<\/a> to $125 billion to $145 billion, driven by heavy investment into AI infrastructure and higher component pricing.
