Both will continue to report to Arch President <strong>Maamoun Rajeh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_874561\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-874561\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-874561\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/app\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Halgan-Jerome-150x150.jpg\" alt width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-874561\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jerome Halgan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Halgan joined Arch in 2009. He has served as president and chief underwriting officer of Arch Reinsurance Group since 2024, and as CEO of Arch Re Bermuda since 2018. Schmeiser joined Arch in 2017 and has served as President and CEO of Arch U.S. Mortgage since 2019.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_874564\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-874564\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-874564\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/app\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Schmeiser-Michael-150x150.jpg\" alt width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-874564\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Michael Schmeiser<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cJerome and Michael are experienced leaders who are deeply grounded in Arch\u2019s underwriting culture and corporate values, and they have consistently outperformed through market cycles,\u201d Rajeh said.<\/p>\n<p>These appointments follow the recent expansion of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/international\/2026\/06\/03\/872332.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maamoun Rajeh\u2019s role as president of Arch<\/a>. Arch Insurance North America CEO Matt Shulman and Arch Insurance International CEO Hugh Sturgess will continue to report to Rajeh.<\/p>\n<h3>***<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Sompo Names MacHale as CUO and Head of Strategy, International Markets<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sompo<\/strong>, the global re\/insurer, announced the appointment of <strong>Henry MacHale<\/strong> as chief underwriting officer and head of Strategy for its International Markets insurance business.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext-2\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"162\" data-revive-topics=\"reinsurance\" data-revive-companies=\"sompo-intl\" data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_874558\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-874558\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-874558\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/app\/uploads\/2026\/06\/MacHale-Henry-150x150.jpg\" alt width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/app\/uploads\/2026\/06\/MacHale-Henry-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/app\/uploads\/2026\/06\/MacHale-Henry-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/app\/uploads\/2026\/06\/MacHale-Henry.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-874558\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Henry MacHale<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In this new role, MacHale will work closely with Sompo\u2019s regional underwriting leaders and teams to help drive strong underwriting performance, set global underwriting policy, and partner closely to ensure the implementation of pricing and underwriting risk control frameworks. Sompo\u2019s International Markets comprises 22 countries across four regions: the United Kingdom (UK), Asia-Pacific (APAC), Continental Europe (including Turkey) and Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, MacHale also will work with regional CEOs to develop and shape the International Markets strategy to provide further focus on organic and inorganic growth opportunities and to enhance, through collaboration, connectivity and alignment within the business, keeping the strengths of local expertise and decision-making.<\/p>\n<p>MacHale, who was previously group chief strategy officer at Aspen (which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/international\/2026\/02\/24\/859432.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sompo acquired in February 2026<\/a>), is based in London and reports to<strong> Alessa Quane<\/strong>, chief executive officer, International Markets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHenry\u2019s appointment is an important step for our International Markets business.
