It forecast 18 typhoons forming, of which 11 will be intense, higher than the 10-year average of 14.2 and 8.4, respectively.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"79\" data-revive-topics=\"catastrophe,natural-disasters,trends\" data-revive-companies data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts is also <a href=\"https:\/\/charts.ecmwf.int\/products\/seasonal_system5_tstorm_frequency?base_time=202605010000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">predicting an above-normal number<\/a> of tropical storms in the Northwest Pacific this summer. In contrast, the Atlantic Ocean is expected to see a relatively quiet storm season \u2014 though a lower number of hurricanes can still wreak havoc on infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>The outlook comes after a below-average 2025 season, with typhoon activity roughly 35% below the historical average, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tropicalstormrisk.com\/docs\/Summary%20and%20Verification%20of%202025%20NW%20Pacific%20Typhoon%20Season.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to Tropical Storm Risk<\/a>. Nevertheless, it still saw powerful storms like Typhoon Ragasa, which lashed the Philippines, Taiwan and Hong Kong, causing extensive damage and dozens of fatalities.<\/p>\n<p>Asia\u2019s typhoon season typically runs from June to October, though the destructive storms can also form in other months.
