{"id":24876,"date":"2026-03-30T05:00:01","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T05:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/?p=863857"},"modified":"2026-03-30T05:00:01","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T05:00:01","slug":"baseball-player-sues-his-parents-alleging-they-are-misusing-his-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2026\/03\/30\/baseball-player-sues-his-parents-alleging-they-are-misusing-his-money\/","title":{"rendered":"Baseball Player Sues His Parents, Alleging They Are Misusing His Money"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/img\/social\/opengraph\/ij-social-lawsuits-1200x630.png\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<ul class=\"nav nav-tabs tabs tabs-entry\">\n<li class=\"active\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/east\/2026\/03\/30\/863857.htm\">Article<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/east\/2026\/03\/30\/863857.htm?comments\" rel=\"nofollow\">0 Comments<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"article-content clearfix\">\n<p>Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm has sued his parents for millions of dollars, accusing them of siphoning large amounts of his money into financial accounts they managed for him and then using some of the cash to pay their own expenses.<\/p>\n<p>Bohm\u2019s lawsuit, filed last Wednesday in a Philadelphia court, comes after he began to review his personal and financial affairs in recent months, and said that his parents refused to give him access to the accounts or provide him with the information he sought about them.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"79\" data-revive-topics=\"lawsuits\" data-revive-companies data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>They sought to \u201cfreeze\u201d him out of four accounts \u2014 established as limited liability companies \u2014 and he now believes they \u201cconverted a sizeable amount\u201d of his money from those accounts \u201cto their own use,\u201d the lawsuit said.<\/p>\n<p>By the time he sought the information, his parents had already transferred millions of dollars from his personal accounts to the accounts they controlled, the lawsuit said.<\/p>\n<p>Bohm\u2019s parents, Daniel and Lisa Bohm, denied doing anything wrong and, through their lawyer, said they are \u201cdeeply saddened by the allegations\u201d and will aggressively defend themselves. Alec Bohm has had full access to the accounts and his parents are paying his expenses on their personal credit cards, their lawyer, Robert Eckard, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. and Mrs. Bohm love their son very much and have always acted in his best interests, both personally and professionally, and still do so to this day,\u201d Eckard said.<\/p>\n<p>After Thursday\u2019s 2026 season opening game, Bohm declined comment to reporters, saying \u201cI\u2019m not going to address any personal matters right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both parties say the first of the accounts was opened in 2019. His parents told him that they assigned themselves a 10% stake, strictly for administration purposes, and that Bohm was the \u201ctrue\u201d owner of all of the LLC\u2019s assets, Bohm\u2019s lawsuit said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext-2\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"162\" data-revive-topics=\"lawsuits\" data-revive-companies data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>The accounts had various purposes, such as investing in securities or buying real estate. Bohm\u2019s lawsuit also said they used money from The Alec Bohm Foundation to pay their expenses.<\/p>\n<p>Bohm\u2019s lawsuit asks his parents to pay at least $3 million in damages, hand over control of the accounts and hire an accountant to track every dollar they transferred from Bohm\u2019s personal accounts to the accounts they controlled.<\/p>\n<p>Bohm, 29, has a $10.2 million contract with the Phillies for the 2026 baseball season.
