{"id":24795,"date":"2026-03-02T17:01:59","date_gmt":"2026-03-02T17:01:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/?p=860134"},"modified":"2026-03-02T17:01:59","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T17:01:59","slug":"michigan-farm-to-pay-33k-to-settle-river-pollution-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2026\/03\/02\/michigan-farm-to-pay-33k-to-settle-river-pollution-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Michigan Farm to Pay $33K to Settle River Pollution Case"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/app\/uploads\/2024\/04\/money-settlement-headline-300x200-1.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<ul class=\"nav nav-tabs tabs tabs-entry\">\n<li class=\"active\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/midwest\/2026\/03\/02\/860134.htm\">Article<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/midwest\/2026\/03\/02\/860134.htm?comments\" rel=\"nofollow\">0 Comments<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"article-content clearfix\">\n<p>Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has reached a settlement with Holloo Farms, a concentrated animal feeding operation (CAFO) in Calhoun County, to resolve allegations that the company violated environmental regulations and improperly discharged animal waste into state waters.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the settlement, Holloo Farms will pay $32,907 in civil fines and partial enforcement costs and will be required to perform groundwater monitoring at its dairy CAFO.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"79\" data-revive-topics=\"agribusiness,pollution\" data-revive-companies data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>Since 2004, Holloo Farms has received more than a dozen compliance communications from the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), including violation notices.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, Holloo Farms discharged approximately 72,000 gallons of raw manure to Huckleberry Drain as a result of improper land application of CAFO waste during the winter.
