{"id":24203,"date":"2025-10-03T18:07:54","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T18:07:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/?p=842541"},"modified":"2025-10-03T18:07:54","modified_gmt":"2025-10-03T18:07:54","slug":"california-state-university-targeted-by-eeoc-antisemitism-inquiry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2025\/10\/03\/california-state-university-targeted-by-eeoc-antisemitism-inquiry\/","title":{"rendered":"California State University Targeted by EEOC Antisemitism Inquiry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/img\/social\/opengraph\/ij-social-default-1200x630.png\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<ul class=\"nav nav-tabs tabs tabs-entry\">\n<li class=\"active\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/west\/2025\/10\/03\/842541.htm\">Article<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/west\/2025\/10\/03\/842541.htm?comments\" rel=\"nofollow\">0 Comments<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"article-content clearfix\">\n<p class=\"bloomberg\">Federal officials have opened inquiries into California State University for allegations of antisemitism and claims of racial discrimination tied to a diversity hiring initiative.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has launched an investigation into claims of antisemitism and was reaching out to employees to gather evidence, Chancellor Mildred Garc\u00eda said in a message to the entire CSU community on Friday that was seen by Bloomberg.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"79\" data-revive-topics=\"education,universities\" data-revive-companies data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>The U.S. Education Department\u2019s Office for Civil Rights is examining CSU\u2019s past participation in The PhD Project \u2014 a nonprofit that works to diversify business education \u2014 over claims of racial discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>The Los Angeles Times was first to report on the inquiries.<\/p>\n<p>Federal investigators had subpoenaed Cal State LA for employees\u2019 personal contact information, the newspaper reported. The campus, one of 22 in the CSU system, hosted a Gaza Solidarity Encampment during nationwide protests over Israel\u2019s war in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of our 22 campuses, Cal State LA, received a discrimination complaint (antisemitism) in 2024 and is working with the EEOC to resolve that matter,\u201d according to a statement from CSU. \u201cAs part of that campus-specific process, Cal State LA received a subpoena from the EEOC for contact information for its employees. This review is still ongoing. This is the only subpoena that the CSU has received.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department and the EEOC is also pursuing similar investigations on antisemitism and discrimination across the University of California as well.<\/p>\n<p>Garc\u00eda said CSU has always complied with state and federal law and doesn\u2019t give preferential treatment based on race or religion.
