The insurer also earlier said that \u201cthere is no evidence of ransomware and no indication of ongoing threat actor activity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Erie has been hit with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/east\/2025\/06\/17\/828076.htm\">two class action<\/a> lawsuits that claim a ransomware group accessed the insurer\u2019s network and there was a data breach. The insurer\u2019s announcement indicates there was no such data breach.<\/p>\n<p>Erie\u2019s announcement that it has restored all operations came five days after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/east\/2025\/07\/02\/830032.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Philadelphia Insurance reported<\/a> that all of its systems were back up and running after its network outage. \u201cWe have resumed regular operations, though we continue to address minor technical issues as they arise,\u201d the company stated in a July 2 update on its handling of its network outage that began June 9.<\/p>\n<p>While neither insurer has spoken of the source of its cybersecurity incident, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/national\/2025\/0\">Google Threat Intelligence<\/a> Group has said that the hacking group known as Scattered Spider appears to have switched focus from retailers to insurance companies, and is likely behind the Erie and Philadelphia events, as well as a possible data breach at insurer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/national\/2025\/06\/20\/828640.htm\">Aflac<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagtag\"> <span class=\"tagtag\">Topics<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/data-driven\/\" class=\"btn btn-sm btn-primary tagtag\">Data Driven<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article-poll\" data-post=\"830645\">\n<div class=\"article-poll-vote\">\n<p>Was this article valuable?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article-poll-feedback voted-no\">\n<form class=\"feedback-form\">\n<p>Thank you!
