The exact size of the ad buy was not disclosed.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"79\" data-revive-topics=\"ridesharing,sharing-economy\" data-revive-companies=\"uber\" data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>The latest push adds to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-02-14\/uber-targets-personal-injury-lawyers-in-multimillion-dollar-ad-campaign\">millions of dollars<\/a> that Uber has set aside this year for advertising and backing political candidates in New York and nationwide to agitate for insurance reform. Uber executives have been warning since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-10-31\/uber-issues-muted-holiday-forecast-even-as-it-hits-record-profit\">late last year<\/a> that demand in some US markets has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-02-19\/uber-lyft-risk-losing-customers-as-fares-jump-7-2-report-says\">softened<\/a> as the company has passed on rising insurance costs to customers in the form of higher prices.<\/p>\n<p>The problem of rising fares is especially acute in New York City, one of Uber\u2019s top rideshare markets, where the area\u2019s largest taxi insurer, American Transit Insurance Co., is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/features\/2024-12-31\/why-new-york-city-risks-higher-taxi-costs-due-to-an-insurance-mess\">insolvent<\/a>. Hochul in January <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-01-21\/new-york-proposes-plan-to-stabilize-broken-taxi-insurance-market\">proposed<\/a> a plan to stabilize the insurance market. But an Uber lobbyist, Josh Gold, said at the time it was insufficient to address underlying problems in the legal system that encourage fraudulent practices and lead to higher premiums, which it alleged in a racketeering lawsuit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-01-30\/uber-alleges-fraud-scheme-by-ny-groups-faking-car-crash-injuries\">filed<\/a> later that month.<\/p>\n<p>Read More: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/features\/2024-12-31\/why-new-york-city-risks-higher-taxi-costs-due-to-an-insurance-mess\">NYC Taxi Disaster Driven by Decades of Inaction, \u2018Massive\u2019 Fraud<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Gold wrote in a letter to the top negotiators \u2014 Governor Kathy Hochul, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie \u2014 that immediate reforms are needed to guard against what the company describes as abuses of insurance policies.
