Honda said Oct. 9 it has received 10,328 warranty claims related to the issue since 2021<span class=\"tr-strong\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"79\" data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>T<span class=\"tr-strong\">here are 1.7 million U.S. vehicles, 240,000 in Canada and 58,000 in the Mexico covered by the recall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a probe into the issue in March 2023 and upgraded the investigation in November.<\/p>\n<p>The steering gearbox assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can cause excessive internal friction and lead to difficulty while steering,<span class=\"tr-strong\"> abnormal steering noise or increased steering effort.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Dealers will replace the worn gear spring <span class=\"tr-strong\">with an improved part and <\/span>add grease if needed. <span class=\"tr-strong\">Honda plans to notify owners by mid-November.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Drivers told NHTSA of \u201csticky steering\u201d issues that occurred mostly at highway speeds after driving for a <span class=\"tr-strong\">period <\/span>of time. Most complaints said the issue occurred with low vehicle mileage.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"tr-strong\">Honda said the issue stems from an improperly produced part can swell when exposed to environmental heat and moisture and added a spring was set improperly high, increasing the sliding force between the components.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>NHTSA said last year it had received reports of 13 crashes related to the issue, including 11 drivers who said they had lost control due to not being able to overcome the momentary increased steering effort prior to their vehicle leaving the roadway.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article-poll\" data-post=\"797030\">\n<div class=\"article-poll-vote\">\n<p>Was this article valuable?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article-poll-feedback voted-no\">\n<form class=\"feedback-form\">\n<p>Thank you!
