How do you do it?<\/p>\n<p>Here is the good news: It\u2019s not hand to hand combat.<\/p>\n<p>When I wrote my book \u201cCaptivating the Wealthy Investor\u201d I surveyed agents and advisors. The first question I asked was: \u201cHave you ever gotten business through your involvement in a community organization?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over 70% said yes.<\/p>\n<p>Next, I asked, \u201cDid you approach them, or did they approach you?\u201d About 66% of respondents said they were sought out.<\/p>\n<p>Some explained it worked both ways.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what not to do.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t consider everyone a prospect.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t lead the conversation with business.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t assume \u201cWhat do you do?\u201d is a buying signal.<\/p>\n<p>Put another way, don\u2019t be pushy.<\/p>\n<p>If you see people at the country club wearing logoed blazers with the name of their real estate firm on the pocket, don\u2019t be like them.<\/p>\n<p>For five tips for what you <em>should<\/em> do, see the gallery above.<\/p>\n<p>Before long, you\u2019ll be recognized when you enter the room and start to feel like an insider. As an added benefit, because you were not pushy, you\u2019ll probably be assumed to be successful.
