{"id":21400,"date":"2024-02-15T17:54:42","date_gmt":"2024-02-15T17:54:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/?p=760967"},"modified":"2024-02-15T17:54:42","modified_gmt":"2024-02-15T17:54:42","slug":"illinois-construction-contractor-fined-264k-for-safety-violations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2024\/02\/15\/illinois-construction-contractor-fined-264k-for-safety-violations\/","title":{"rendered":"Illinois Construction Contractor Fined $264K for Safety Violations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/img\/social\/ij-social-post-1104x736.png\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<ul class=\"nav nav-tabs tabs tabs-entry\">\n<li class=\"active\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/midwest\/2024\/02\/15\/760967.htm\">Article<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/midwest\/2024\/02\/15\/760967.htm?comments\" rel=\"nofollow\">0 Comments<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"article-content clearfix\">\n<p>An Illinois construction contractor \u2013 with a history of ignoring federal safety regulations \u2013 has again been found exposing workers to deadly fall hazards on a jobsite in Naperville.<\/p>\n<p>Inspectors with the U.S. Department of Labor\u2019s <a title=\"Occupational Safety and Health Administration - Home\" href=\"https:\/\/www.osha.gov\/\">Occupational Safety and Health Administration<\/a> observed employees of United Custom Homes LLC of Oswego, Illinois, working without protective equipment at heights up to 20 feet on a residential home under construction on Aug. 23, 2023.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"79\" data-revive-topics=\"construction,contractors\" data-revive-companies data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that <a title=\"Data from Bureau of Labor Statistics\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/iif\/fatal-injuries-tables\/fatal-occupational-injuries-table-a-5-2022.htm\">of 1,056 construction workers who suffered fatal on-the-job injuries in 2022, 423 of them died in falls.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnited Custom Homes continues to ignore federal safety regulations and endanger workers\u2019 lives by exposing them to deadly fall hazards,\u201d said OSHA Chicago South Area Director Jim Martineck in Tinley Park, Illinois. \u201cEvery employer has a legal obligation to provide a safe workplace, train workers and provide necessary equipment to keep them safe on the job. We will continue holding this employer accountable for their willing disregard of the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Citation and Notification of Penalty - United Custom Homes LLC - PDF\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/sites\/dolgov\/files\/OPA\/newsreleases\/2024\/02\/OSHA%2024-35-OSHA-CHI%20United%20Custom%20Homes%201693621%20signed%20citations.pdf\">OSHA cited United Custom Homes for one repeat, one willful, one serious and one other-than-serious violations and assessed $264,143 in proposed penalties.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the violations cite the company\u2019s failure to provide fall protection equipment or train employees in fall hazards, improper use of ladders and failure to recertify workers in the operation of powered industrial vehicles every three years, as required. The agency cited the company for similar violations seven previous times since 2015.
