(AP) \u2014 A 6-year-old boy who left on a flight to visit his grandmother in southwest Florida instead was put on the wrong plane and ended up 160 miles away in Orlando, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>When the grandmother, Maria Ramos, showed up on Thursday at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers to greet her grandson who was flying for the first time from Philadelphia, she was told he wasn`t on the Spirit Airlines flight.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"79\" data-revive-topics=\"aviation\" data-revive-companies data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>\u201cI ran inside the plane to the flight attendant and I asked her, \u2018Where\u2019s my grandson? He was handed over to you at Philadelphia?\u2019 She said, \u2018No, I had no kids with me,`\u201d Ramos told WINK News.<\/p>\n<p>She then got a call from her grandson from the airport in Orlando, telling her that he had landed.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Spirit Airlines said the boy was under the care and supervision of an airlines employee the entire time, even though he was incorrectly boarded on a flight to Orlando. Once the mistake was discovered, the airlines let the family know, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe take the safety and responsibility of transporting all of our Guests seriously and are conducting an internal investigation,\u201d the statement said. \u201cWe apologize to the family for this experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Photo: (AP Photo\/Chris O\u2019Meara, File)<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"copyright-notice lite\">Copyright 2023 Associated Press.
