{"id":21001,"date":"2023-11-17T17:24:20","date_gmt":"2023-11-17T17:24:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/?p=748753"},"modified":"2023-11-17T17:24:20","modified_gmt":"2023-11-17T17:24:20","slug":"study-medical-payments-to-treat-injured-workers-in-texas-stable-over-five-year-period","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2023\/11\/17\/study-medical-payments-to-treat-injured-workers-in-texas-stable-over-five-year-period\/","title":{"rendered":"Study: Medical Payments to Treat Injured Workers in Texas Stable Over Five-Year Period"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul class=\"nav nav-tabs tabs tabs-entry\">\n<li class=\"active\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/southcentral\/2023\/11\/17\/748753.htm\">Article<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/southcentral\/2023\/11\/17\/748753.htm?comments\" rel=\"nofollow\">0 Comments<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"article-content clearfix\">\n<p>Medical payments to treat injured workers in Texas were stable from 2016 to 2021, according to a new study from the Workers\u2019 Compensation Research Institute (WCRI).<\/p>\n<p>The study, <em>CompScope Medical Benchmarks for Texas, 24th Edition<\/em>, found that stability in medical payments masked offsetting changes, \u201cincluding a decline in utilization of medical care coupled with increases in outpatient and inpatient hospital payments,\u201d said Ramona Tanabe, president and CEO of WCRI.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"79\" data-revive-topics=\"trends,workers-comp\" data-revive-companies data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>A decline in payments per claim mainly occurred between 2019 and 2021, which WCRI said was largely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Other findings from the study include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Utilization of nonhospital services decreased by 11 percent from 2020 to 2021, mainly because of fewer visits per claim.<\/li>\n<li>Hospital outpatient payments per workers\u2019 compensation claim increased from 2019 to 2021 mostly due to growth in payments per service.<\/li>\n<li>Payments per workers\u2019 compensation claim were lower in Texas than typical for both nonhospital and hospital care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The study examined medical services in Texas compared with 16 other states overall, by type of provider, and by type of medical service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tagtag\"> <span class=\"tagtag\">Topics<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/trends\/\" class=\"btn btn-sm btn-primary tagtag\">Trends<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/location\/texas\/\" class=\"btn btn-sm btn-primary tagtag\">Texas<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/workers-comp\/\" class=\"btn btn-sm btn-primary tagtag\">Workers&#8217; Compensation<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article-poll\" data-post=\"748753\">\n<div class=\"article-poll-vote\">\n<p>Was this article valuable?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article-poll-feedback voted-no\">\n<form class=\"feedback-form\">\n<p>Thank you!
