{"id":20829,"date":"2023-10-12T07:57:23","date_gmt":"2023-10-12T07:57:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/?p=743948"},"modified":"2023-10-12T07:57:23","modified_gmt":"2023-10-12T07:57:23","slug":"update-airlines-wrestle-with-safety-risks-of-evacuation-operations-in-israel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2023\/10\/12\/update-airlines-wrestle-with-safety-risks-of-evacuation-operations-in-israel\/","title":{"rendered":"Update: Airlines Wrestle With Safety Risks of Evacuation Operations in Israel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/app\/uploads\/2023\/10\/norwegian-air-flight-over-england-393434435-bigstock-580x387.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/app\/uploads\/2023\/10\/norwegian-air-flight-over-england-393434435-bigstock-scaled.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<ul class=\"nav nav-tabs tabs tabs-entry\">\n<li class=\"active\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/international\/2023\/10\/12\/743948.htm\">Article<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/international\/2023\/10\/12\/743948.htm?comments\" rel=\"nofollow\">0 Comments<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"article-content clearfix\">\n<p class=\"tr-story-p1\">Airlines wrestled with the safety risk of evacuation operations in Israel on Thursday, with Norwegian Air and Dutch KLM canceling flights while Air France was going ahead with a special flight chartered by the French foreign ministry.<\/p>\n<p>Norwegian Air said it had canceled a planned evacuation flight from Tel Aviv to Oslo due to a lack of insurance cover.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"79\" data-revive-topics=\"aviation\" data-revive-companies data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>Dutch airline KLM said late on Wednesday it had retracted an offer to the Dutch government for a flight to Israel to take Dutch citizens out of the country, citing safety concerns.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/international\/2023\/10\/12\/743922.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Airlines Face Israel Insurance Alert in Wake of Weekend Attacks<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But sister airline Air France was pressing ahead with a flight from Paris on Thursday, a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>The two airlines are owned by the same parent group Air France-KLM but are operationally separate.<\/p>\n<p>No explanation was available for the contrasting decisions.<\/p>\n<p>KLM said \u201cthe most recent information on the situation in Israel indicates it is not sufficiently possible for a civilian airline to conduct a flight that\u2019s safe for crew and passengers.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"bzn bzn-sized bzn-intext-2\">\n<ins data-revive-zoneid=\"162\" data-revive-topics=\"aviation\" data-revive-companies data-revive-block=\"1\" data-revive-id=\"36eb7c2bd3daa932a43cc2a8ffbed3a9\"><\/ins> <\/div>\n<p>The Dutch foreign ministry said it would send a military plane to Israel on Thursday instead.<\/p>\n<p>Norwegian Air had been due to fly Norwegian and other Nordic citizens stranded in Israel out of the country on Thursday evening. The flight had already been postponed from Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason is that the insurance company that Norwegian and a number of other airlines use no longer cover flights to Tel Aviv,\u201d Norwegian said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Airlines have faced warnings over insurance cover in the wake of the weekend attacks on Israel by Hamas militants.<\/p>\n<p>Norwegian said it was working with Norway\u2019s foreign ministry to find other solutions. On Tuesday it canceled regular flights from the Swedish and Danish capitals to Tel Aviv until Dec. 19.<\/p>\n<p>Germany\u2019s Lufthansa was sticking to its plans for evacuation flights on Thursday and Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tr-signoff\">(Reporting by Anna Ringstrom, Bart H.
