{"id":20492,"date":"2023-07-21T20:23:14","date_gmt":"2023-07-21T20:23:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thinkadvisor.com\/2023\/07\/21\/11-things-top-rias-did-better-than-rivals-in-2022\/"},"modified":"2023-07-21T20:23:14","modified_gmt":"2023-07-21T20:23:14","slug":"schwab-11-things-top-rias-did-better-than-rivals-in-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2023\/07\/21\/schwab-11-things-top-rias-did-better-than-rivals-in-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Schwab: 11 Things Top RIAs Did Better Than Rivals in 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"media_block\"><a href=\"https:\/\/feeds.feedblitz.com\/-\/757045049\/0\/thinkadvisor\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.thinkadvisor.com\/contrib\/content\/uploads\/sites\/415\/2022\/10\/Trends_Binoculars_Paper_Airplane_Adobe_640x640.jpg\" class=\"media_thumbnail\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p><button id=\"start-slideshow-top\" data-toggle=\"modal\" data-target=\"#slideshowModal\" class=\"start-slideshow carousel-control slideshow-btn industry-spotlight \">Start Slideshow <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thinkadvisor.com\/assets\/master-template\/images\/market-images\/tasr\/rightarrow.svg\" class=\"prevbtn-img\"><\/button> <\/p>\n<p id=\"first-para\">Although last year represented \u201csuch a challenging time,\u201d the registered investment advisor sector remained healthy, according to Lisa Salvi, managing director of business consulting and education at Schwab Advisor Services.<\/p>\n<p>That was especially true for what Schwab refers to as the \u201ctop performing firms\u201d \u2014&nbsp;&nbsp;those that rank in the top 20% of&nbsp;its Firm Performance Index.<\/p>\n<p>Despite 2022\u2019s challenges, RIA client growth \u201cremained quite healthy\u201d and was up 6% from the prior year, \u201cin line with the five-year annualized growth rate,\u201d Salvi told advisors and reporters on Thursday, during a webcast highlighting results of <a href=\"https:\/\/content.schwab.com\/web\/retail\/public\/about-schwab\/schwab_ria_benchmarking_study_2023_deck.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charles Schwab\u2019s 2023 RIA Benchmarking Study<\/a>, released the same day.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, \u201ceven though there\u2019s some pressure\u201d on assets under management, RIAs are \u201cstill able to attract quite a few new clients,\u201d she said, adding: \u201cWhen we look at the five-year AUM, revenue\u201d and client compound annual growth rates, \u201cresults show that the RIA industry continues to be strong and we know that demand for advice is not going anywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Addressing advisors about&nbsp;last year\u2019s challenges, Salvi said: \u201cThe S&amp;P 500 was off 20%, U.S. Treasurys ended the year in the red, there was volatility in the market conditions, inflationary pressures [and] geopolitical uncertainties. All of this took a toll on investor confidence. It created a lot of headwinds and probably quite a few conversations that you were having as you helped your clients through these challenging times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The RIA sector \u201ccontinues to demonstrate strong long-term results, despite a challenging 2022,\u201d according to the 2023 study.<\/p>\n<p>The median RIA firm ended 2022 with $455 million in AUM, the study said. That was down 71% from 2021 but led to a five-year CAGR of 10%, according to Schwab.<\/p>\n<p>The median RIA firm ended 2022&nbsp;with $3.1 million in revenue, up 4.1%, with&nbsp;a five-year CAGR&nbsp;of 10.8%.
