{"id":17869,"date":"2020-04-01T02:56:45","date_gmt":"2020-04-01T06:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/Life-Insurance-Blog\/individual-health-insurance-still-holds-for-truckers-industry-says\/"},"modified":"2020-04-01T02:56:45","modified_gmt":"2020-04-01T06:56:45","slug":"individual-health-insurance-still-holds-for-truckers-industry-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2020\/04\/01\/individual-health-insurance-still-holds-for-truckers-industry-says\/","title":{"rendered":"Individual health insurance still holds for truckers, industry says"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-res.keymedia.com\/cms\/images\/ca\/110\/0348_637213209871992070.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>After declaring that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifehealthpro.ca\/news\/canadian-insurers-ease-truckers-coverage-concerns-327880.aspx\">group health coverage will still apply to commercial truck drivers<\/a> going across the U.S-Canada border, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifehealthpro.ca\/tools\/companies\/canadian-life-and-health-insurance-association\/222223\/\">Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association<\/a> (CLHIA) has provided additional reassurance for those with their own travel health insurance policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCanada\u2019s life and health insurers are confirming that commercial truckers who hold travel health insurance policies on an individual basis will not lose coverage when entering the United States,\u201d the CLHIA said in a statement last week.<\/p>\n<p>The association cited new measures through which insurers can exempt commercial truckers from routine exclusion clauses that would normally be triggered by an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifehealthpro.ca\/profiles\/canadians-seek-insurance-clarity-amid-continuing-uncertainty-327615.aspx\">\u201cavoid non-essential travel\u201d advisory by the Canadian government<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a previous announcement, the CLHIA had confirmed that commercial truckers covered by workplace or group insurance policies would get continued out-of-country medical coverage despite a federal restriction on non-essential travel to the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe situation has been less clear for truckers holding individual insurance as the insurers generally do not classify individual travel health policies by employment category,\u201d the association said.<\/p>\n<p>To address this, insurers said they will ask people making claims on their individual policies to identify themselves as cross-border commercial truckers.
