{"id":17570,"date":"2019-11-19T15:00:39","date_gmt":"2019-11-19T20:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.benefitscanada.com\/news\/survey-finds-44-of-canadian-workplaces-have-policies-on-vaping-at-work-139040"},"modified":"2019-11-19T15:00:39","modified_gmt":"2019-11-19T20:00:39","slug":"survey-finds-44-of-canadian-workplaces-have-policies-on-vaping-at-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2019\/11\/19\/survey-finds-44-of-canadian-workplaces-have-policies-on-vaping-at-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Survey finds 44% of Canadian workplaces have policies on vaping at work"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"alignleft clearfix\">\n<div class=\"wp-caption feature-image alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"350\" height=\"263\" src=\"https:\/\/www.benefitscanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/77152411_l-350x263.jpg\" class=\"attachment-feature size-feature wp-post-image\" alt=\"copyright: 123rf_\u0421\u0435\u0440\u0433\u0435\u0439 \u0422\u043e\u043b\u043c\u0430\u0447\u0435\u0432\" title=\"Survey finds 44% of Canadian workplaces have policies on vaping at work\"> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"byline\"><span>Staff<\/span>&nbsp;|&nbsp;November 19, 2019<\/p>\n<p>Nearly half (44 per cent) of Canadian workplaces now have formal policies on vaping at work, according to a new survey by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.<\/p>\n<p>The new policies comes in the wake of the ballooning number of vapers globally; in 2018, 14 million people vaped,&nbsp;compared to seven million in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Julie Stich, vice-president of content at the IFEBP, said employers\u2019 vaping policies tend to align with existing smoking policies.&nbsp;\u201cIf a workplace doesn\u2019t fall under the federal or provincial law, it\u2019s up to the employer to decide whether to ban vaping at work, taking into consideration how e-cigarette use fits into the company\u2019s culture and goals,\u201d he said in a press released. \u201cThe evolving investigation into the outbreak of lung injuries due to vaping is also causing employers to look at this issue from a safety and well-being perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read:&nbsp;<a class=\"l lLrAF\" href=\"https:\/\/www.benefitscanada.com\/benefits\/health-wellness\/should-non-smokers-get-extra-vacation-time-106151\">Should non-smokers&nbsp;get extra vacation time?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Canada, workplace smoking and vaping policies vary.&nbsp;More than half (54 per cent) of employers limit smoking to designated outdoor areas, while nearly a quarter (23 per cent) permit smoking outside of the building. Just 16 per cent prohibit&nbsp;smoking on the entire campus including parking and outdoor areas. Only four per cent said they have smoking policies that vary by worksite and even&nbsp;fewer employers (three per cent) said they don\u2019t prohibit smoking anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>The survey also found 60 per cent of Canadian organizations offer tobacco or smoking-cessation programs to their employees. Among employers that track the effectiveness of these programs, 68 per cent rated it as very or somewhat effective.
