{"id":17532,"date":"2019-11-14T15:00:06","date_gmt":"2019-11-14T20:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.benefitscanada.com\/news\/humanisrx-launches-medication-optimization-program-138913"},"modified":"2019-11-14T15:00:06","modified_gmt":"2019-11-14T20:00:06","slug":"humanisrx-launches-medication-optimization-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2019\/11\/14\/humanisrx-launches-medication-optimization-program\/","title":{"rendered":"HumanisRx launches medication optimization program"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"alignleft clearfix\">\n<div class=\"wp-caption feature-image alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"316\" height=\"190\" src=\"https:\/\/www.benefitscanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Drugs-Medications.png\" class=\"attachment-feature size-feature wp-post-image\" alt title=\"HumanisRx launches medication optimization program\"> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"byline\"><span>Staff<\/span>&nbsp;|&nbsp;November 14, 2019<\/p>\n<p>Medication-related issues are negatively affecting employees\u2019 health, causing them to take extended leaves from their jobs and leading to high benefits and disability costs for employers, according to a new&nbsp;white paper by HumanisRx.<\/p>\n<p>These issues include incompatible or duplicate drugs, higher than recommended doses, suboptimal therapy and failure to&nbsp;take medications as prescribed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur research finds that employees are not optimizing their use of prescription medications, and that\u2019s a huge cost driver for Canadian employers and insurance companies,\u201d said Jeff May, president of HumanisRx, in a press release.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benefitscanada.com\/news\/2019-drug-plan-trends-report-whats-next-for-drug-plans-127032\">2019 Drug Plan Trends Report: What\u2019s next for drug plans?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The company, in collaboration with Munich Re Group, GroupHEALTH Benefit Solutions and Disability Management Institute, recently conducted a study examining drug claims data.&nbsp;It found alerts were generated by one in every four plan members using medications, indicating at least one identified drug therapy problem that may have been related to a safety risk, suboptimal therapy or failure to take the drug as prescribed. As well, it found almost&nbsp;60 per cent of the drug therapy problems identified were due to safety, meaning the plan member was at risk of an adverse outcome.<\/p>\n<p>HumanisRx introduced a medication optimization program called MedMonitor to address these and other issues.&nbsp;Using clinical algorithms, the software identifies employee medication risks, triages them and initiates an intervention with a HumanisRx pharmacist.
