{"id":17097,"date":"2019-10-07T15:30:37","date_gmt":"2019-10-07T19:30:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.benefitscanada.com\/news\/scotiabank-adds-extra-paid-personal-days-to-support-employee-well-being-136686"},"modified":"2019-10-07T15:30:37","modified_gmt":"2019-10-07T19:30:37","slug":"scotiabank-adds-extra-paid-personal-days-to-support-employee-well-being","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2019\/10\/07\/scotiabank-adds-extra-paid-personal-days-to-support-employee-well-being\/","title":{"rendered":"Scotiabank adds extra paid personal days to support employee well-being"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignleft clearfix\">\n<div class=\"wp-caption feature-image alignleft\"> <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"316\" height=\"190\" src=\"https:\/\/www.benefitscanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Scotiabank-Shutterstock.jpg\" class=\"attachment-feature size-feature wp-post-image\" alt title=\"Scotiabank adds extra paid personal days to support employee well-being\"> <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"byline\"> <span>Staff<\/span>&nbsp;|&nbsp;October 7, 2019 <\/p>\n<p>Scotiabank is&nbsp;providing its eligible Canadian employees with an additional two paid personal days to support their mental health.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning Jan. 1, 2020, the bank\u2019s Canadian workforce will have a total of five personal days and the flexibility to take them as needed, in addition to existing sick and vacation days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur people are our most important asset and their well-being is a top priority for Scotiabank,\u201d said Barbara Mason, chief human resources officer, in a press release. \u201cWe strongly believe that by offering employees greater flexibility to take time off to achieve greater work-life balance, our employee population will be healthier and happier, and therefore enabled to perform at their very best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benefitscanada.com\/benefits\/health-benefits\/60-of-canadians-with-mental-health-concerns-not-using-workplace-support-tools-136164\">60% of Canadians with mental-health concerns not using workplace support tools<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dominic Cole-Morgan, the bank\u2019s senior vice-president of total rewards, also noted research has demonstrated that more flexibility and paid personal time contribute to reducing absenteeism and improving employee productivity and engagement.<\/p>\n<p>Scotiabank made the announcement a day ahead of World Mental Health Day, when it will host a wellness trade show for its Toronto employees and hold webinars on several mental-health topics.<\/p>\n<p>The bank&nbsp;currently offers $3,000 a year in mental-health coverage to employees and their families, which can be put toward services such as family therapists, marriage counsellors, psychologists and psychotherapists.<\/p>\n<p>The two additional paid personal days will be available to regular&nbsp; and contract status employees, as well as co-op students who\u2019ve worked at Scotiabank for three consecutive months, although the three-month requirement is waived above a certain job level.
