{"id":14912,"date":"2019-05-13T15:46:55","date_gmt":"2019-05-13T19:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/insurance-journal.ca\/article\/more-than-13-million-in-fines-for-false-life-insurance-applications\/"},"modified":"2019-05-13T15:46:55","modified_gmt":"2019-05-13T19:46:55","slug":"more-than-13-million-in-fines-for-false-life-insurance-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lifeinsurance-orleans.ca\/index.php\/2019\/05\/13\/more-than-13-million-in-fines-for-false-life-insurance-applications\/","title":{"rendered":"More than $ 13 million in fines for false life insurance applications"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/insurance-journal.ca\/media\/photologue\/photos\/photo_web_2866.png\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>The <strong>Court of Qu\u00e9bec<\/strong>, District of Gatineau, has imposed fines totaling $13,055,984 on <strong>Michel Bernard<\/strong> for taking out life insurance policies for fictitious clients, following an agreement between the respondent and Quebec regulator, the <strong>Autorit\u00e9 des march\u00e9s financiers <\/strong>(AMF).<\/p>\n<p>Bernard pleaded guilty to both counts he faced, underlined the AMF. He provided false or misleading information to <strong>Equitable Life Insurance Company of Canada<\/strong> and <strong>Foresters Life Insurance Company<\/strong> by making false life insurance and health insurance applications for fictitious loan insurance customers.<\/p>\n<p><em>FlashFinance.ca,<\/em> a sister publication of <em>Insurance Journal<\/em>, previously reported that Bernard made 105 applications on behalf of 210 insureds to cover fictitious debts.
